Based on an agreement between the Iranian Vice-Presidency for Science, Technology and Knowledge-Based Economy’s Headquarters for the Development of Knowledge-Based Economy in the Health Sector, the Deputy of the Health Ministry, the Office of Medical and Laboratory Equipment of the Health Ministry and the Iranian Ehya Darman Pishrafteh company, the supply of 70 16-slice CT scanners needed by the medical centers affiliated to the Health Ministry was approved.

They agreed on providing at least 70 of the 100 16-slice CT scanner devices required by the medical centers from the Iranian manufacturing companies.

Also based on the agreement, in order to increase the quality and create a competitive environment, the Health Ministry can supply a maximum of 30 foreign-made 16-slice CT scanners.

Iranian Vice-President for Science, Technology and Knowledge-Based Economy Rouhollah Dehqani Firouzabadi had in December inaugurated the production line of 16-slice CT scan devices and the export of Iran-made ventilators manufactured by a knowledge-based company.

The ceremony was held at Khorassan Razavi’s Science and Technology Park in the Northeastern part of Iran.

After the ceremony, Dehqani Firouzabadi visited the production lines of parts made in Iran for respiratory aid equipment, Tubofan Dion respiratory ventilators, professional valve resuscitation and ventilation calibrator and other equipment made the specialists of the knowledge-based company.

“At present, we have a cooperation agreement with the Health Ministry to make and deliver 35 CT scanners. Without doubt, we can produce and deliver 250 16-slice CT scanners to the Health Ministry within one year,” said Khosro Heydari, the managing director of the knowledge-based company.

“By producing certain parts of CT scanners, the company has joined the club of manufacturers of CT scan parts in the world, and in the future we can mass-produce and export the CT scan parts,” he added.

CT scanning uses special x-ray equipment that produces cross sectional images of the body.  The unit comprises a gantry which is large squarish machine with a wide hole in it and a table which the patient lies on.

Conventionally, images were obtained slice by slice sequentially but with multidetector-CT in the spiral mode, large volumes of the body can be scanned rapidly and accurately. The digital information for the scanner is converted to images that can be viewed in any 3D orientation.

The 16-Slice CT Scanner captures multiple images of a patient’s anatomy in a matter of seconds and presents information 3-dimensionally.  This means the images of the body are now taken much faster, therefore reducing the examination time and increasing comfort.
